Smart Horticulture 2017 held in Bhubaneswar

In order to provide a platform to discuss on the development of horticulture sector in the country, Smart AgriPost held a two day national conference “Smart Horticulture 2017” on 25-26 March in Bhubaneswar. Dr. Damodar Rout, Minister of Co-operation, Odisha had inaugurated the event while Debi Prasad Mishra, Industries Minister, Odisha was the chief guest on this occasion.

Highlighting the issues Odisha is facing in horticulture sector, Rout said, “Odisha has huge potential for increasing horticulture production. We should focus on restoring traditional practice of backyard horticulture farming in villages, providing right seed and planting materials to farmers and creating a good market linkage.”

Mishra, appreciating the efforts of Smart AgriPost, said, “The department officers and experts will deliberate upon the opportunities in the state and the challenges farmers are facing. The conference will come out with practical and meaningful solutions for the development of the horticulture sector, thereby increasing farmers’ income.”

Farmers, students, entrepreneurs, NGOs and FPOs had actively participated in large numbers in the conference. An exhibition showcasing latest innovations and technologies in horticulture farming and processing was also organized.

Department of Horticulture (Odisha), Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd, National Cooperative Development Corporation, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), United Phosphorus Ltd, Agrinnovate India Ltd, Odisha State Agriculture Marketing Board, and Department of Agribusiness Management (Utkal University)  had participated in the event.

Among others, Prof  S N Pasupalak, Vice Chancellor, OUAT, Gokul Patnaik, Chairman, Global AgriSystem Pvt Ltd, Srikanta Prusty, Director Horticulture, Jatin Mishra, Course Head, Dept.  Agribusiness Management, S Makhija, Strategic Advisor, Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd, P K Mohapatra, DGM, NABARD, Dr D P Roy, Former VC, OUAT and Yogesh Kedar, Vice-President, NeML had participated in the inaugural ceremony.
