Monsoon to hit Kerala coast on May 30

The south-west monsoon is expected to hit Kerala on May 30, two days ahead of schedule, KJ Ramesh, director general of the state-run India Meteorological Department has said.

Last Sunday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had announced that the monsoon had arrived in some parts of Andaman and Nicobar.

“The statistical forecast model suggests that the monsoon onset over Kerala this year is likely to be close to the normal date. The south west monsoon is likely to set over Kerala on May 30 with a model error of four days on either side,” the Meteorological Department said.

Last month, IMD had predicted that India would receive a near normal 96 per cent monsoon rainfall in 2017.
