Maharashtra Agri Loan Only for Those Getting Income from Farming

Mumbai: Only those agriculturists whose sole source of income is from farming will be eligible for the agriculture loan provided by the Maharashtra government.

A Government Resolution (GR) mentions that those earning from other sources, even if they own farms, will be disqualified from the initial loan assistance scheme under which Rs 10,000 is provided to the farmers.

According to Maharashtra Cooperation Minister Subhash Deshmukh, the Rs 10,000 initial loan assistance scheme is provided to farmers in distress for whom faming is the only source of income. He said the GR contains the list that will pin down the undue beneficiaries.

All the teaching and non-teaching staff in the government-aided and local body-run schools in Maharashtra will be omitted from the scheme, says the GR.

The GR states that those registered under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment Act-1948 will not be able to avail crop loan for cultivation.

The GR also mentions that all the sitting elected representatives from panchayat level to the Central government as well as those who were previously on such posts, will be disqualified from the scheme.
