M.S. Swaminathan focuses on eco-technology for sustainable agriculture

NEW DELHI:While interacting with the scientists of ICAR-CRCR on bio-fortified varieties, Padma Vibhusan Prof. M.S. Swaminathan said the eco-technologies like biofertilizers, biopesticides, biocontrol agents should be treated as biological softwares for sustainable agricultural development.

Prof. Swaminathan took keen interest on biofortified varieties like yellow flesh cassava variety Sree Swarna; ?-carotene rich sweet potato varieties Sree Kanaka, ST14; and anthocyanin rich yam variety Sree Neelima.. He appreciated the ongoing work on soil test based fertilizer recommendation, organic farming, soil and nutrient conservation technologies, and studies on response of tuber crops to climate change. He expressed his happiness over the biopesticides developed by ICAR-CTCRI.

Dr. S. K. Chakrabarti, Director, ICAR-CTCRI apprised him about the salient achievements of the institute and the role it played for last 50 years in progressive development of the sector in India. He also emphasized about the opportunities and the thrust areas on which the institute is concentrating.
